About BSF Return to Top of Page
Founded in 1979, the mission of the Bellevue Schools Foundation (BSF) is to promote and help fund the best possible learning opportunities for all students in the Bellevue School District. The funds we raise help improve student learning through district wide academic initiatives, curriculum material and book purchases, training opportunities for teachers, and an array of programs that meet students' special needs. We also help bridge the gap between the basic funding provided by the State of Washington and what our District's students need to truly excel.

TRANSFORMING EDUCATION. SUPPORTING STUDENTS.

Accomplishments Return to Top of Page
Since 1979, the Bellevue Schools Foundation (BSF) has raised over $14 million for Bellevue schools with more than 10,000 donors contributing.

In 2005-2006, individuals donated more than two-thirds of the $1.78 million that BSF raised for Bellevue School District programs. The remainder came from over 90 local corporations, businesses, and foundations.

In 2006-2007, donations through BSF will make the following possible:

  • Align the grade 9-12 language arts program with college level standards by emphasizing analysis and synthesis through writing about non-fiction work. ($234,500)
  • Develop an 8th-10th grade physics-biology-chemistry incorporating contemporary learning research and authentic science investigations. ($125,000)
  • Kindergarten-grade 12 teacher training in developing students' mathematical abilities. ($79,730)
  • A variety of programs for struggling students, including before- and after-school reading, writing and math programs and classroom support. ($175,000)
  • Help Bellevue teachers achieve National Board Certification by underwriting the fees ($157,500); and give ALL new full-time teachers $200 each, to help with classroom purchases. ($35,000)
  • Assist struggling students in grades 6-12 to become successful learners through the AVID study- and management-skills improvement program. ($114,000)
  • Support innovative student learning projects through curriculum enhancement (formerly classroom) grants in all Bellevue schools. ($100,000)
  • Help hundreds of underachieving students through one-on-one mentoring and tutoring as provided by VIBES (Volunteers in Bellevue's Education System). ($75,700)

More than 10,000 donors, including thousands of individuals and dozens of businesses and corporations, have contributed to BSF programs since its inception. BSF obtains grants from local and national sources to benefit Bellevue schools.
