BELLEVUE SCHOOLS FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES NEW CLASSROOM GRANT GUIDELINES AND DEADLINES
Classroom grants one of several district-wide programs funded by BSF
BELLEVUE, Wash., April 8, 2003. -- Bellevue Schools Foundation (BSF) today announced revisions to its Classroom Grants
guidelines and deadlines in an effort to make the process easier for teachers and school administrators. The
updated procedures follow a record number of grants received and granted for the 2002-2003 school year.
The new grant deadlines are September 8, 2003 and January 12, 2004. The new guidelines and a revised grant
application will be posted on our Web site (www.bsfdn.org) by the end of the school year. The new grant application
is designed to more clearly outline the information needed for the grant process. BSF will publish the new application
and guidelines when available.
The number of grant requests received by the BSF this year increased by 33 percent over the previous year,
resulting in total grant funding of $129,000. This was $9,000 over what was budgeted.
"It is clear that the need remains great, because we are seeing more and increasingly creative grant requests from
across the district," said Sherry Ladd, executive director of BSF. "We want to make sure that all schools have a
clear understanding of the guidelines and how to better ensure a successful grant application."
While Classroom Grants are an important and highly visible part of the Bellevue School Foundation's funding, it is
one of several programs supported by the BSF as part of its mission of providing the best possible learning experience
for all students in the Bellevue School District.
For the 2002-2003 academic year, the Bellevue Schools Foundation's main funding initiatives include:
| • Academic Excellence initiative | $200,000 |
| • Classroom grant program | $129,000 |
| • At-risk student mentoring programs | $125,700 |
| • Middle school science program | $100,000 |
| • New teacher grants | $ 45,000 |
| • Early childhood programs | $ 42,500 |
| • Middle school Arts Immersion | $ 30,000 |
| • Other grants | $ 10,000 |

About the Bellevue Schools Foundation (BSF)
The Bellevue Schools Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization that helps fund academic excellence
for every student in the Bellevue School District. Uniquely, BSF works in partnership with the Bellevue School
District, the Parent-Teacher-Student Associations and school educators and administrators. Founded in 1979,
BSF was created by a concerned group of parents and community leaders, who wanted to ensure quality education
for Bellevue's children despite the economic challenges facing the school district. Each year, BSF funds help
bridge the gap between state funding and schools' budgets and programs needs. In 2002-2003, BSF raised nearly
$1 million, which funded programs in science, math, reading, the arts, mentoring and other initiatives for some
15,000 students across all grades and schools. As a non-profit organization, BSF depends on its thousands of
individual and corporate donors to bring private money into public schools.
